Parhaiyas

Parhaiya are one of the nine Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups of Jharkhand state.

Parhiya literally means "the burners of the forest" or "hill dweller".

They are mainly concentrated in Latehar and Palamau districts of the state.

They are still lagging behind on the major indicators of development such as health, education and income.

They rely on the forest for sustenance-collecting forest produce and hunting.

PVTGs are subcategories created within the scheduled tribes during the fourth five year plan based on the Dhebar Commission Report.

There are a total of 75 PVTGs in India.
