North Atlantic Treaty Organisation



Finland joined the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation recently.


NATO is headquartered in Brussels, Belgium.


It is a western defensive military alliance led by the United States.


It was created after World War II as a countermeasure to the Soviet Union’s initiatives.


It has a principle of collective defense and undertakes exercises for strengthening its territorial, naval, and air forces.


Certain eastern European nations, post the collapse of the USSR, joined NATO.


It currently has 30 members and India is not a member.
