McMahon Line

The McMahon Line is a boundary between China and India in the Eastern Sector.

It was drawn during the Shimla Convention of 1914.

The line mainly involves the boundary between Arunachal Pradesh and Tibet, from Bhutan in the west to Myanmar in the east.

China has always been in dispute over the boundary and claims Arunachal Pradesh as a part of the Tibetan Autonomous Region.

India recognizes the McMahon Line to be the ‘Actual Line of Control (LAC)’ between India and China, whereas China does not recognize the line.

Recently, the US recognised the McMahon Line as the international boundary between China and India in Arunachal Pradesh.
