India’s first cloned desi Gir female calf, Ganga was produced at National Dairy Research Institute.
The breed originates from the Gir forests of South Kathiawar in Gujarat.
The breed is also known by the names: Desan, Gujarati, Kathiawari, Sorthi, and Surati.
The breed is exported to the United States, Mexico, Venezuela and Brazil.
