Recently, studies have shown that the artificial Erythritol sweetener can increase the risk of heart attack in humans.

Erythritol comes under a class of sugar alcohol, and is used as a low calorie sweetener.

There are other varieties of sugar alcohols such as - xylitol, sorbitol, and maltitol.

Erythritol is naturally found in fruits, vegetables and fermented foods.

It's also present in human body fluids such as eye lens tissue, serum, plasma, urine, etc.

Industrially it is produced by fermentation with a yeast called Moniliella pollinis , from glucose.
