Compassionate Appointment



The concept of compassionate appointment can be traced to Article 39 of the Indian Constitution. 


Article 39 - Directive Principles Of State Policy talks about the right to livelihood.


Compassionate appointment aims to provide employment opportunities to depend on family members of a government servant who dies in harness or retires on medical grounds, who don't have a means of sustenance. 


Appointments can be only made in“Group ‘C’ posts.


The measure can also extend to the family members of certain Armed Forces employees.
