Carbon Footprint of India’s Marine Fisheries

Carbon footprint is the amount of greenhouse gasses, in particular the CO2 released into the atmosphere by a particular human activity.

In 2016, India’s marine fisheries produced 1.32 tonnes of carbon dioxide to produce one kilogram of fish.

It is lower than the global average of 2 tonnes.

The Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute was established under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. Later joined the ICAR in 1967.

Ecological footprint is a related term which focuses on measuring the use of bio-productive space.
